  • Meal Plan

Pugs love to eat which is why it’s important for owners to feed them with a healthy balanced diet. When they appear as if they are still hungry, don’t give in to their puppy dog eyes. They have the tendency to overeat which is why you should never overfeed them, especially with their unique digestive system.

Talk to your vet and ask them to develop a nutrition plan specific to their breed. Maintaining the right diet plan can help keep your pet healthy and energetic. At the same time, prevent them from becoming obese.

  • Grooming

Since pugs have naturally short hair, you’ll save a lot of time, money and energy grooming them. They have minimal shedding in comparison to long-haired breeds. Pugs should be groomed every week. This includes combing their hair, trimming their nails, brushing their teeth and cleaning their ears.

Make sure you wipe their face, especially in between their wrinkles. Use a soft cloth to wipe off dirt off their face several times a day.

This will prevent any infections and irritations from developing, especially in the creases. You can use certain products specifically formulated for pugs to cure any bacterial infections.

Pugs are naturally healthy dogs. However, they are also prone to various health conditions. Because they have a short nose, they are also more susceptible to breathing problems. Their noses tend to dry fast and become patchy.

Some of the health conditions they are at risk include dog encephalitis, eye disease, hip dysplasia and patellar luxation. Pugs are sensitive when it comes to their environment. They respond easily to hot and cold temperature. Thus, making them more suitable as indoor pets.

Pugs have a normally have a lifespan of 12 to 15 years.

  • Height and Weight

A pug is a small breed dog and usually weighs around an average of 13 to 20 pounds. They stand at 10 to 14 inches tall.

Pugs aren’t really considered as athletic dogs, especially with their short legs. Nevertheless, they require daily exercise to keep them strong and fit. You can bond with your little buddy by playing with them or walking them around the neighborhood.
